The European Article Number (EAN) is a 12 or 13 digit bar code numbering scheme for unique product identification. Each EAN uniquely identifies the product, its manufacturer, and its attributes.
EAN Code is compatible with, and has supplanted, the older (10-digit) Universal Product Code (UPC). Amazon also assigns a unique ASIN to new products that are already identified by EAN.
